A Lesson in Trust – My Unforgettable Press Conference at Ragunan Zoo
It was a day right before my flight to Miami, florida, that was supposed to be a joyful celebration, combining a press conference with our Indonesia’s national independence celebration, and attended by the entire staff of PT. Pengadaan Indonesia (LPI). Little did I know that this event would turn into an odd and uncomfortable experience, leading to a valuable lesson about trust.
The setting for our press conference was Ragunan Zoo, an outdoor venue that seemed rather unconventional for such an important occasion. As I arrived with my family, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease for the reporters who had come to cover the event. They were scattered all over, desperately searching for proper places to sit and await the commencement of the conference. It was a chaotic and embarrassing scene that left me deeply sympathetic to their plight.
I couldn’t fathom why LPI had chosen such an impractical venue for an event of this magnitude. The reporters’ discomfort was palpable, and I couldn’t shake the suspicion that this choice had been motivated by a desire to save costs and maximize profits. This revelation was disappointing, to say the least.
To make matters worse, it soon became apparent that LPI’s lack of consideration extended beyond the venue. I had harbored high expectations for this event, especially since the account head was an acquaintance of my mother’s. However, it quickly became evident that our well-being and comfort were not a priority for LPI. It was a harsh and painful truth to accept.
After my departure to Miami, Florida, any attempts at communication with LPI fell on deaf ears. My mother’s calls and messages went unanswered, leaving us feeling neglected and abandoned. It was a stark realization that our trust had been misplaced.
In hindsight, this experience serves as a stark lesson not to readily trust others. It underscores the importance of discernment and diligence when entering into professional relationships. While it’s easy to be swayed by personal connections or affiliations, it’s essential to evaluate individuals and organizations based on their actions rather than their promises.
Though this experience left me feeling neglected and scammed, it has ultimately made me wiser. I now understand the importance of thoroughly vetting those we choose to work with and not placing blind faith in personal connections alone. It’s a lesson that I’ll carry with me as a reminder to prioritize trust but verify, ensuring that my expectations are met with actions rather than empty words.
